Tis’ the season for holiday wreaths

Posted on November 29, 2011

Thanksgiving has ended so it is now appropriate to start decorating for Christmas. Wreaths set the tone for the holiday because they are usually the first thing people see when they come into your house or dorm.  I like non-traditional, homemade things so I thought it would be fun to make some of my own Christmas decorations, one of which being a black, red and silver wreath.

  • Foam ring wreath (can be found at Hobby Lobby)
  • Tinsel
  • Ornaments
  • Ribbon
  • Hot glue gun with glue refills

  1. Measure how much tinsel you need by wrapping it around the foam ring wreath. The foam ring can be any size you like, as long as you have enough material to cover the ring. The goal of the tinsel is to cover up all of the foam.
  2. Cut the tinsel with a little bit of leiway at the end.
  3. With your hot glue gun glue one end of the tinsel on the foam ring.
  4. Start wrapping the tinsel around the foam ring glueing parts periodically to to the foam ring until you reach the end of the tinsel. Glue that end to the foam ring as well.
  5. Repat these steps with the ribbon you chose. The difference is is that the ribbon won’t wrap around as many times as the tinsel because it doesn’t need to cover the foam.
  6. Glue your ornaments to the wreath with the hot glue gun.
The good thing about wreaths are the many options you can do with it. By following these steps and choosing different color ribbon, tinsel, or ornaments each wreath can be unique.
